Assessment and Reform in Teaching English Language by using Multimedia and Concentration and its Impact on Adolescent of Rural Area.

Introduction -

According to Aristotle, ‘Education is the process of creating sound mind in the sound body.

 

It is a short but full description of happy and healthy body. Yoga is an ancient pragmatic science which dealing with the physical, moral, mental and spiritual well being of man over thousands of years. It is both science and art which show the way and art of living. Through concentration we realize how important a balanced mind is through experiencing deeper aspects of our own personality and then we begin to balance our essential needs and desires and develop insight. Yoga education helps to develop the concentration which can help students and teachers to relax the body, focus the mind and create healthy lifestyle.

 

Information Communication Technology (ICT) – Today we live in an era of information and communication technology (ICT). Over the past forty years we have witnessed dramatic changes in the ways of language learning. It is under such multifarious changes that the significant innovation in language education – Computer Assisted Languages Learning (CALL) has come to the age. CALL span wide ranges of activities in language acquisition – listening, speaking, reading and writing and draws nearly all areas of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

 

Multimedia –

As the name implies, multimedia is the integration of multiple forms of media. This includes text, graphics, radio, video etc. for example, a presentation involving audio and video clips would be considered as a ‘Multimedia Presentation’.

 

Assessment –

Describes the status of a phenomenon at a particular time. It deals with opinion, knowledge, practices or conditions.

 

Reform –

Thomas S. Popkewitz describes ‘The common sense of reform is to assume that intervention is progress. A better world is to evolve as the result of new programmes, new technologies and new organization that increase efficiency, economy and effectiveness.

 

Concentration –

Concentration means loosening up the mind and bringing about a definite but not specified impartial unconcern to external influences. During the process of concentration the mind and body should be at ease and should not be in a state of conflict or disturbance. In order to achieve such a state of concentration, the various Yogasana, Pranayama and Pratyahara in the practice of yoga, to get rid of mental influences that come in the way of concentration.

 

Yoga and Concentration –

The word ‘yoga’ means ‘union’ and the unifying aspect of all forms of yoga and yoga meditation. The Science of Yoga and it techniques have now been re-oriented to suit modern sociological needs and lifestyle. It helps in the prevention of disease and promotion of health Yoga creates specific effects, to strengthen and tone the nerves, glands and organs of the body and ultimately draw the mind and senses inward to experience a deeper state of consciousness, a feeling of blissful union with spirit.

 

Yoga Education –

‘Yoga is a set of physical and mental exercises, India in origin, which is intended to give control over body and mind’

 

– Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary

Yoga as a science and as a form of exercise is not new science of health education. Yoga has a rich successful history of more than five thousand years.

 

Significance of Yoga Education –

Use of Yoga Education in the Classroom, they are as follows –

1.    It helps students and teachers to relax their body.

2.    It helps to provide, effective treatment of a wide range of health problems or disorders.

3.    It helps students and teachers to develop their imagination power.

4.    It creates a healthy atmosphere for teaching learning process.

5.    It helps students and teachers to reduce their stress and tensions.

6.    It helps students and teachers to bring concentration.

7.    It helps to heal tone, energy, stamina, strength and flexibility of teacher and student.

8.    It helps to burn up body’s extra fat and provide a much improve body shape or figure.

9.    It helps students and teachers to develop their decision making competency.

 

Multimedia and Yoga Education to increase our concentration –

1.    Multimedia provides latest information to teachers and students to update their knowledge.

2.    Video clips of Yoga educational programmes are easily available.

3.    It decreases limitations of learning location. One can learn or practice yoga whenever she/ he wants.

4.    We can download various types of Yoga e-books and audio books.

5.    We can download various types of yoga postures, videos for pactice yoga.

6.    Multimedia is also useful for developing distance education strategies for yoga education.

7.    It helps us to record lectures and video clips of expert yoga teachers.

 

Methodology –

Parallel group experimental method will be adopted in the study. 400 students of rural areas studying in standard IX and X will be selected as sample for the study. 200 students will be considered as control group and another 200 students will be considered as a tool for study. An achievement test will be need as a tool for study. An achievement test consisted of work sheet related to the language.

 

T-test was applied for the study.

 

Conclusion

Yoga is an ancient pragmatic science which dealing with the physical, moral, mental and spiritual well being of man over five thousand of years. Yoga is considered as a divine science of life. It aims to create a positive learning environment for students and teachers, increases student performance and improves classroom management with the melodious progress of the mind, body and soul. The main theme of yoga is to achieve concentration and attaining control over mind. Yoga education is one of the forms of physical or health education which helps students and teachers to discover their self and help them to live a life where their body, mind and spirit will be in harmony.
